Ian Davidson is Chairman Emeritus of D.A. Davidson Companies. He joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in 1958 as the firm’s third employee, with his father and a secretary/cashier. He was named President of what was then D.A. Davidson in 1968, and CEO and Chairman in 1970 and served in those roles during many years of growth and development for the company. He remained a key leader of the company until 2000, when he stepped back from day-to-day management while remaining active with the company. He served as D.A. Davidson Companies Chairman until 2012.
Previously, he worked for an investment firm in Utah and New York, was a finance instructor at the University of Montana and was an accounting officer in the U.S. Air Force. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Montana and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
Ian has been active in securities industry organizations, including the National Association of Securities Dealers, for which he was Chairman in 1995. He was Vice Chairman of the Pacific Exchange Inc. and a board member for the Securities Industry Association. His career also has included extensive involvement with a number of civic, educational and nonprofit organizations. He has been responsible for encouraging a culture of civic involvement and social responsibility within D.A. Davidson Companies.
